This painting is a partial view of the original Guest Motel at Bandelier National Monument, near Los Alamos, New Mexico. It was constructed as a WPA project in the 1930's and is currently used as Park Ranger housing. On this particular May morning, the New Mexico Spring winds were particularly bad. My painting companion and I ducked in behind another one of the buildings, using it as a wind break. It was also a bit warmer there than out in the open and we happily painted our paintings in this small sheltered alcove.
